My Story

I grew up on an island, in a household filled with classical and brass band music, learning instruments, singing, playing music in community settings including care homes, performing and being a member of various musical groups. I studied Music at university, where I first discovered the transformative and indescribable power music as therapy.  I knew that this was something I would like to learn more about further along in my career. Meanwhile, I undertook postgraduate training as a class teacher of Music and Creative Arts and entered the teaching profession.

Fast forward many years with increasing ‘life experiences’ including becoming a mother, I took further training in early years music provision. I felt an increasing awareness and curiosity as I worked with children for whom a more individualised approach was needed.  Whilst my goal was always to encourage a love and joy through musical experiences that would help develop a strong and positive sense of self, I wanted to be able to do more. I was passionate about exploring ways to understand more about how music could be a creative tool for communication, emotional regulation and wellbeing rather than a skill to teach in an intellectual way. This extended to my private instrumental teaching practice. The consequence of my curiosity resulted in embarking on an intensive 2-year full-time Masters Degree in Music Therapy.
